Hilma L. Tackett, 88, a former resident of rural LaOtto and widow of Edmund "Ed" Tackett, passed away at 2:15 a. m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Miller's Merry Manor in Garrett. She had been a patient there for over six years. Mrs. Tackett was born in Fredericktown, Missouri on July 21, 1926, a daughter of John and Grace (Pippins) Miller, spent her formative years there, and completed her high school education. In 1949 she moved to Fort Wayne and had lived in rural LaOtto for much of her adult life. She had also spent a period of time in Lakeland, Florida during her retirement years before returning to this area. She was employed as an assembly worker at Coverall Rental in Fort Wayne for several years. It was there that she met her husband Edmund "Ed" Tackett, and was married to him in 1979. Mr. Tackett preceded her in death on November 12, 2013. The surviving relatives include her daughter Connie (Robert) Codling of Fort Wayne; three step-daughters Susan Tackett of Churubusco, Linda (Steen) Gronlund of Longmont, Col., and Veronica May of LaOtto; a step-son Arlen Tackett of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren Amy (Jason) Francis-Baugher, Alex Francis, and Zach Francis, all of Fort Wayne; ten step-grandchildren; numerous great and step-great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son John Wayne Francis. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Corinne Boruff-Stucker, pastor of Churubusco United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p. m. on Monday. Interment will be in the Swan Cemetery, north of LaOtto.
