Howell Edward "Ed" Brooks, 86, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Ashton Creek Nursing Home.
Born on June 11, 1940, in Three Rivers, MI, Ed was the son of the late Clyde and Jean (Austin) Brooks. After graduating from Three Rivers High School in 1958, he went on to earn his bachelor's degree in forestry from Michigan State in 1963. That same year, on December 21, he married the love of his life, Mary L. Griffiths, in Litchfield, MI.
Ed began his career with the U.S. Forest Service, nurturing his lifelong love of the outdoors. He later dedicated 31 years as maintenance manager for Indiana Michigan Power, retiring in 2000. His leadership and commitment left a lasting impact on colleagues and friends alike.
Ed was an active member of St. Alban's Episcopal Church, St. Joe Conservation Club, Indiana Skeet Shooting Club, Indiana Christmas Tree Growers Association, and Indiana Arborist Association. He especially enjoyed making maple syrup, skeet shooting, and fishing, hobbies that brought him great joy and lifelong friendships.
Ed is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Mary Brooks; two sons, Mark Brooks and Eric (Tracy) Brooks; seven cherished grandchildren, Avery DeWitt, Kyle Brooks, Carson Brooks, Morgan Brooks, Alaina Brooks, Rachel Brooks, and Caden Brooks; and his brother, Gordon "Bub" Brooks.
A Celebration of Life Service will be at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 7308 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, IN, at 4:00 PM on Saturday, June 20, 2026, with calling two hours prior to the service.
