Ira Everett Baker, 86, of LaOtto, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2026, at his home.
He was born on September 22, 1939, in Rochester, to the late Ira and Edna (Felty) Baker. He spent his formative years in Rochester and graduated from Rochester High School. Following his time serving in the United States Army, he completed his Bachelor's degree at IUPU Fort Wayne and subsequently established a successful career as an architect specializing in building design.
Ira was known for his humble nature and love of the great outdoors. He spent many joyful hours fishing and hunting, and he also enjoyed collecting guns and knives. A fixture at the Magic Wand Restaurant, he was known to always have a suggestion on what could have been done better, often ordering the same dish that brought him comfort and familiarity.
Ira is survived by his daughter, Pam (Kyle) Johnson; his son, Jason Baker; his five grandchildren, Brett (Marissa) Miller, Maggie Johnson, Jordan Baker, Mallory Johnson, and Jeffrey Johnson; and a great-grandchild on the way. In addition to his parents, Ira was preceded in death by his siblings, Waldo Baker, Paul Baker, LuEdith Severas, Ethel Baker, and Frederick Baker.
Funeral services will be held on April 9, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, with a public viewing from noon to 2:00 p.m. prior to the service. Following the funeral, Ira will be laid to rest at Eel River Cemetery.
