Jack Worthman

Jack R. Worthman, 86, of New Haven and formerly of Fort Wayne, passed away at 5:10 am on Thursday, November 14, 2013 at Golden Years Homestead. Mr. Worthman was born on January 2, 1927 in Fort Wayne, a son of John Roy and Alice (Yaney) Worthman. He spent his formative years in Fort Wayne, and graduated from South Side High School in 1944. After high school he served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II. Following his military service he graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Custom Home Design. He then attended the Chicago School of Fine Arts. On June 16, 1951 he was married in Fort Wayne to Bettina "Tina" Einhorn. He was the owner and operator of Worthman Homes. He had one home featured in the Better Home and Gardens in 1956, and had also won first Place several time in the Parade of Homes in Fort Wayne. Mr. Worthman was a member of the Plymouth Congregational Church and Kiwanis. He spent 12 years as an Allen County Commissioner. During that time he was instrumental in the development of Headwaters Park, Wizards Ball Field, and the renovations of the Allen County Court House. He was an accomplished Pianist and enjoyed spending time with his family at the lake. The surviving relatives include wife, Bettina Worthman of New Haven; two sons, Jeffery R. Worthman of St. Croix and Martin L. (Donna) Worthman of New Haven; three daughters, Lisa L. Chiddister of Fort Wayne, Alice L. (Fritz) Martin of Columbia City, and Faith E. (Craig) Wise of Grabill; a sister, Joan (Ron) Flohr of Fort Wayne; 11 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren Memorial services will be held at 2:30 pm Thursday at Plymouth Congregational Church, 501 W. Berry Street. Dr. John P. Gardner, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm Thursday. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the church or Heartland Hospice. *********************************
