Jacqueline Smith

Jacqueline Jane Smith, 90, of Churubusco passed away in her daughter's home Saturday, January 20, 2018. She was born October 6, 1927 in Fort Wayne to the late George and Clara (Closson) Baillie. She spent her formative years in New Haven and graduated from New Haven High School in 1945. She worked at General Electric in Fort Wayne. She was the owner of Smith Food Plaza in Fort Wayne from 1963 to December 31, 2015. She loved kids, babysitting and spending time fishing. She was the catcher for the General Electric softball team. She was a member of the former Woodview Church of God where she was a church group leader. She witnessed about her God to family friends and customers, never ceasing to tell of God's Love and Mercy. Our mom was always a giver with time, talent and love. She is survived by a daughter, Roxane (Don) Fry of Churubusco; a son, Doug (Diana) Smith of Fort Wayne; three grandchildren, Amanda (Oliver) Kook, Andrew Smith, Elizabeth Smith (fiance Taylor Paul); three great grandchildren, Emma Kook, Lilly and Dahlia Mergy; a sister, Sally (Lester) Sandusky of CA; many nieces and nephews; caregivers, Glenda Anglin and Payton; many friends and neighbors. She is preceded in death by her four brothers, Eugene "Bill", George "Sammy", John and Tom Baillie. Visitation will be 10:00am until service time at 1:00pm Saturday, January 27, 2018 at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home. Burial will be in Harlan Cemetery, Harlan. Officiating will be Pastor DeWayne Beggs. Memorials may be made to Visiting Nurse and Hospice Home or Churubusco Church of Nazarene.
