James Caupp

James A. Caupp, 74, a former resident of Churubusco, passed away at 1:05 p. m. on Thursday, October 5, 2011 at the Towne House Retirement Center in Fort Wayne, where he had resided for the past seven years.e Although he had been in declining health, he had only been seriously ill since Friday. Mr. Caupp was born in Union City, Indiana on October 21, 1936, a son of Kenneth Lloyd and Ava (Frazier) Caupp.e He spent his formative years in Muncie and moved to Blue Lake in 1951.e He graduated from Churubusco High School in 1954, and as a young man served with the U. S. Army. On November 1, 1958 he was married in Albion to M. Fay Wilson, and spent most of his adult life in Churubusco.e A former employee of G. I. Case in Churubusco, International Harvester in Fort Wayne, and Borg Warner in Auburn, he had been employed as a machinist at Dana Corporation in Fort Wayne for 28 years, retiring from there in 1999. He was a member of the Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157 in Churubusco, and since living at the Towne House Retirement Center, had been active as a volunteer there. Mrs. Caupp preceded him in death on July 18, 1998. The surviving relatives include his daughters Carolyn (Terry ) Byrd of Churubusco and Diana (Chad) Parent of Fort Wayne; two step-sisters Marsha Shappell of Holiday, Fla. and Sandy (Clifford "Dutch" ) Parks of Weatherford, Tx; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two infant children William Caupp and Becky Caupp; and by his sister Mary Jones. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Sunday, October 9, 2011, in the chapel of the Towne House Retirement Community, 2209 St. Joe Center Road, with Chaplain Douglas Vogel, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Saturday from 2 to 6 p. m., or at the chapel one hour prior to the service Sunday afternoon. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to Gilbert Davis American Legion Post 157, 115 S.
