James "Jim" Russell Myers 90, of Huntertown, passed away on October 26, 2024, at Bethlehem Woods, in Fort Wayne.
Jim was born on April 16, 1934, in Dekalb County, to the late Marion and Irene (Boger) Myers.
He was married in 1961, to Marjorie Stemen. She preceded him in death on January 17, 2024.
Jim spent a fulfilling life dedicated to his work and his passion for cars. Jim was a skilled and committed auto mechanic, who took great pride in owning and operating Myers Marathon on Coliseum Blvd, then Myers Arco at White Swan in Fort Wayne, and later at his home on 4 acres, Myers Performance Shop. He was renowned for tuning carburetors and had the opportunity to tune for Moose Myers and Bobby Smith. Beyond his work, Jim found joy in racing Hobby Stockers at Bear Field and Avilla Raceways, later switching to drag racing when the former became too dangerous. He shared knowledge of cars as a teacher at Ivy Tech for 10 years.
Jim is survived by his children, Annette (Jeff) Mowery and Tim (Sherry) Myers; his two brothers, Ronald Myers and Stephen (Janet) Myers; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Sgt. Michael Myers.
A funeral service will be held at noon, on Wednesday, October 30, 2024, at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, with calling beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Interment will follow at Huntertown Cemetery.
Immediately following the burial, the family will gather at Well Grounded Cafe in Huntertown to continue to share stories of Jim.
