James D. Stout, 76, of Columbia City, passed away at 10:59 p.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at his home in Columbia City.
Mr. Stout was born on June 29, 1940 in Fort Wayne, a son of Darwin and Viva (Hagan) Stout. He spent his formative years in Arcola, and graduated from Arcola High School in 1958.
After high school he served his country in the U.S. Army.
On January 4, 1964 he was married in Lake Township, Allen County to Carole Bergman, and moved from Arcola to his current home in 1966.
He was employed at Harvester, and retired on June 29, 1989 after 30 years.
Mr. Stout enjoyed traveling to the west and visiting famous North American Indian battle grounds.
His spouse preceded him in death on August 16, 1999.
The surviving relatives include his son, Jeffrey (Melissa) Stout of Fort Wayne; a grandson, Justin Stout of Fort Wayne; three sisters, JoEllen (Doug) Snyder of Houston, TX, Susan (Robert) VanEvery, and Darlene (Robert) Raber both of Fort Wayne; and his long time companion Linda Koger of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by his parents Darwin and Viva (Hagan) Stout.
Military rites will be held at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home on Friday, October 28, 2016 at 8:00p.m.
The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday.
Burial will be in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County, at a later date.
