Jay H. Adams, 72, a former resident of Fort Wayne and more recently of rural Columbia City, passed away at 7:10 a. m. on Thursday, September 20, 2012, at his residence in Noble County. He had been seriously ill for the past month. Mr. Adams was born on May 6, 1940 in Fort Wayne, a son of Paulus and Ressie (Risser) Adams. He spent his formative years in Fort Wayne and graduated from Northside High School in 1959. A self-employed contractor for most all of his adult life, he was a prize winning gardener, and enjoyed his flower beds and also woodworking. The surviving relatives include his companion of over 25 years Joan (Blanchard) Kessler; three children Andrew (Amy) Adams of Seattle, Wash., and Robin (Marty) Piercy and Chana (Mike) French, both of Fort Wayne; four sisters Deloris Adams, Elizabeth "Betty" Adams, Peggy Adams and Sandra (David) Knepple, all of Fort Wayne; his brother Phillip (Sandy) Adams of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Jerry Blanchard, pastor of Anthony Wayne First Church of God, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning. Interment will be in the Glenwood Cemetery, Roanoke.
