Jerry Insley

April 23, 1944 — April 19, 2022

Jerry L. Insley, 77, of Churubusco, passed away on Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Kingston Care Center, Fort Wayne. He was born on April 23, 1944, in Wolf Lake, to the late Barney and Maxine (Klemm) Insley. He spent his formative years at Blue Lake and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1962. He was a life-long resident of Churubusco. Jerry was married to Sandy Franklin in Churubusco on April 18, 1964. Sandy moved in next door her junior year of high school, and they found each other after high school. Jerry worked for the Railroad for 18 years, retiring in 1985. He also worked for a brief while at the Supervalue in Churubusco. Jerry had a great sense of humor and enjoyed sharing it with all he met. He had a way of sounding serious when he was joking around. In his free time, he enjoyed cars, golfing, and remodeling his home. The family would like to thank the staff at Fresenius Kidney Care in Fort Wayne for taking care of "princess." Jerry is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sandy Insley; his two children, Trey Insley and Shannon (Jay) Merkel; his five grandchildren, Trey, Haden, Riley Insley, Grant, and Grace Merkel; a great-grandson, Trey. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Phil Insley. Calling will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Thursday, April 28, 2022, from 4 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the American Kidney Association.
