Joan M. Allman, 91, of Churubusco, passed away at her home on January 31, 2024.
Joan was born on February 7, 1932, in Fort Wayne, to the late Glen and Thelma (Huth) Hemmelgarn. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne and graduated from Fort Wayne Central in 1949.
On July 22, 1950, she married her beloved husband, Jack Allman, who preceded her in death on July 2, 2018.
Joan was a dedicated teacher's aide at Smith-Green Community Schools for 9 years, dedicating herself to the nurturing and development of many children. Joan was an avid painter, seamstress, and craftswoman in her free time. She also loved planting flowers and setting up big euchre games with many tables, she was a true Hoosier. Joan's greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially during their visits to her home in Florida during her retirement.
Joan is survived by her daughters, Deborah Nelson and Rita (Steve) Ardhuerumly; seven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Allman; a brother, Glen "Butch" Hemmelgarn; two sisters, Pat Wertman and Shirley Romano.
A funeral service will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Monday, February 5, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with calling one hour before the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Sunday, February 4, 2024, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Joan will be laid to rest at Merriam Christian Chapel Cemetery.
