Joan Scherschel

Joan L. Scherschel, 80, of Churubusco, passed away peacefully on February 28, 2026, at Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne.

She was born in Fort Wayne on August 27, 1945, to the late Robert and Frieda (Schneck) Stirnkorb. She spent her formative years in Allen County, graduating from New Haven High School.

Joan was married to Thomas Scherschel in Fort Wayne on June 19, 1965. He preceded her in death on July 9, 2015, after 50 years of marriage.

She worked as a stocker at Supermarket Services for over 30 years. Joan loved camping, fishing, and Elvis. She was a regular card player at the YMCA and the Turtle Town Senior Social Club. She was a Member of the St. John Bosco Catholic Church.

Joan was a loving and devoted Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother.

Joan is survived by her daughters, Christine (John) Perez and Terri (Chuck) Milledge; her grandchildren, Amanda (Zach) L's Choiceopez, Riley (Even) Derry, and Jami Milledge; and her great-grandchildren, Caleb and Gabriel. 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, John Stirnkorb.

Calling will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 & 6:00 to 8:00. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. Calling will also take place one hour prior to the mass at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel.

Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at St. John Bosco Catholic Church on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Churubusco.
