Joan (Bailey) Wauer, 91, of Churubusco passed away quietly in her family's care, at 10:20 a.m. on Monday, October 24, 2022, at her home.
She was born in Walkerville, Ontario, Canada, on November 28, 1930, to the late Daniel and Ethel Bailey. Her family moved to the United States in 1940 and settled in Michigan. She spent her formative years in Belleville and graduated from Belleville High School in 1949.
In Belleville, she met and married Albert "Joe" Wauer in December 1949. The couple retired to Churubusco in 1975. He preceded her in death on September 30, 2008, after 59 years of marriage.
She enjoyed reading and doing word searches and crossword puzzles. Joan loved working in her yard, and she was a wonderful cook. She was passionate about her horse and especially black horses.
Joan was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother. She will always be remembered for her fighting spirit to the end.
She leaves behind four children, Christine (Jan) Griggs, Sandra (Dick) Greene, Candice (Rick) Oribello, and Douglas (Sandra) Wauer; a brother, Daniel Bailey; a sister, Gloria Bailey; 10 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren, and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Monday, October 31, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. with calling one hour prior to the funeral.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Sunday, October 30, 2022, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
Memorials may be directed to the Allen County S.P.C.A or St. Jude Children's Hospital.
