John Addis

John Franklin Addis, Jr., 76, a resident of rural Churubusco, passed away at 5:53 p. m. on Monday, April 15, 2013 at the family residence in Smith Township.e He had been seriously ill since January. Mr. Addis was born in Green Township in Noble County on November 22, 1936, a son of John and Marie Estella (Claxton) Addis, Sr., and had lived all of his life in the Churubusco-area.e As a young man he spent his formative years in Green Township, was educated at Churubusco High School, and served with the U. S. Army. On October 6, 1959 he was married to Nancy Walters.e Employed as a truck driver for over 20 years, he retired from J & R Trucking in Fort Wayne.e In his leisure time he enjoyed fishing, motorcycles, and most especially loved and cherished his family. The surviving relatives include his wife Nancy, to whom he was married for over 53 years; three children Sharon Addis, Wanda Addis, and Jacob Addis, all of Churubusco; his siblings Lora (Elvin) Bridegan, Jim (Carol) Addis, and Jerry (Gloria) Addis, all of Churubusco, and Grace Slater of Largo, Fla; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Friday, April 19, 2013, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Aaron Peer, pastor of Charter Oak Community Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p. m. Interment with military graveside rites will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the family.
