John Mckinney

John R. McKinney, 82, a resident of rural Eel River Township in Allen County, passed away at 8:56 a. m. on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at the Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne.e He had been in declining health and had been hospitalized since March 13. Mr. McKinney was born on February 25, 1930 in Lebanon, a son of Vern and Katherine (Hunt) McKinney, and spent his formative years in Boone County.e He graduated from Lebanon High School in 1948, and as a young man served with the U. S. Army Security Agency during the Korean Conflict.e On September 30, 1951 he was married in Garrett to Margaret A. Sellers, and later graduated from Indiana Tech in 1955. Employed as the manager of contract administration for Kunkle Industries in Fort Wayne, he retired from there in 1992 after 34 years.e He and his wife lived in the Pine Valley area for 25 years until moving to their present home in rural Allen County in 1981. A member of the American Radio Relay League, his call sign was K9FQN.e In addition to his interest in amateur radio, he enjoyed woodworking, camping, and flying r. c. airplanes. The surviving relatives include his wife Margaret A., to whom he was married for over 60 years; a son John R. (Lois) McKinney, Jr. of Norwood, Mo; a daughter Janice R (William) Ogg of Eel River Township; his brother David Joe (Nicole) McKinney of Thorntown; and three grandchildren John R. McKinney III, David A. (Kimberly) McKinney, and Vern F. (Ashley) McKinney.e His parents preceded him in death. Services will be held at 11 a. m. on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, with visitation one hour prior to the service.e Long time family friend Robert Peck will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in the Corunna Cemetery, DeKalb County. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the donor's choice. ***********************************************
