John Edward Smith, 67, of Fort Wayne, passed away at his home on March 18, 2024.
He was born in Connersville on September 1, 1956, to the late Raymond and Linda (Allen) Smith. He spent his formative years in New Haven and graduated from New Haven High School.
He lived in Fort Wayne and was a dedicated worker at Harris Manufacturing, where he had an esteemed career in the pontoon-building industry. He retired in 2022, but his passion for work remained evident in the meticulous manner he restored antique pedal cars, a craft he discovered and honed while visiting flea markets and antique stores.
John cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his siblings, Linda Rorick, Raymond "Jake" Jr., and Naomi Sue (Daniel) Roth; and brother-in-law, Steven Bowers Sr. His nieces and nephews, Linda Marie Bowers, Sierra Smith, Steven Daniel Bowers, Jr., James Rorick, Carla Sue (Jose) Castro, and John Ray Bowers; six great nieces and nephews will remember him as a loving and caring uncle.
John was predeceased by his parents, Raymond Sr. and Linda Smith; his sister, Donna Bowers; a brother-in-law, Leonard Rorick.
A funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m., on Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, with calling beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Burial will take place at the Huntertown Cemetery following the service.
