Jonathan Shepler, 16, of Churubusco, passed away on December 6, 2016 at 2:48 p.m. at Parkview Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 21, 2000 in Fort Wayne, the son of Mark Shepler and Jodi (Gump) Shepler. Jon spent his formative years in Churubusco, and was Sophomore at Churubusco High School. Jonathan was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy March 9, 2006, DMD is a genetic disorder characterized by progressive muscle degeneration and weakness. Jon was an avid sports fan who loved the Fort Wayne Komets he could recite stats better than anyone and loved spending time at Komets Hockey Games with his family. In addition the Komets he followed the Chicago Blackhawks, the Cubs, Notre Dame Football, IU Basketball, Indianapolis Colts, and Busco sports. He was kind, caring, compassionate, a prankster, funny, smart, and an incredible young man. Even though he could not do most things on his own he always made the best of every situation and had a smile on his face. His younger brother Blake was his best friend and were always doing things together. He is survived by his mother, Jodi (Gump) Shepler of Churubusco; his father, Mark (Jennifer Miller) Shepler of Fort Wayne; his brother, Blake Shepler of Churubusco; maternal grandmother, Debra (Jim Smithson, Jr.) Poyser of Fort Wayne; paternal grandmother, Donna (Mike) Hanks of of Fort Wayne; his three aunts, Janice (Darrin Lotz) Shepler, Kristina (Robert) Musser both of Fort Wayne, and Kari Cain of Churubusco; his cousins, Tyler Shepler, Zachery Shepler, Thomas Musser, Daniel Musser, Hayley Morphew, Hunter Abbott, Tyler Abbott, and Sadie Cain. He is preceded in death by paternal grandfather John Shepler, Jr. Funeral services will be held on Sunday December 11, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. at the Jason Smith Auditorium at Churubusco High School. At the families request please wear your favorite teams clothing. The family will receive friends on Saturday December 10, 2016 from noon to 6:00 p.m. at the Jason Smith Auditorium, or one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery, Allen County, Monday, December 12, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to Lake City Bank C/O Jonathan Shepler Memorial Fund. Sheets and Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with the services.
