Larry L. Thornburg, 79, a resident of Muncie and long-time area pharmacist, passed away on Wednesday evening, April 4, 2012, at I. U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.e His family was by his side. Mr. Thornburg was born on September 14, 1932 in Farmland, a son of William Rolland "Dutch" and Rowene Adeline Owens Thornburg.e Hee spent his formative years there and graduated from Farmland High School in 1950.e He attended the school of pharmacy at Butler University, and served as a pharmacist in the U. S. Army from 1956-1958.e He later earned his PhD from Purdue University. On June 16, 1955 he was married in Muncie to Judy D. Melvin of Gaston.e The couple first lived in Churubusco for three years where he was a pharmacist for the former Barnhart Drug Store.e He worked as a pharmacist in Fort Wayne for ten years where he joined the Hooks Company, ande went on to open and manage Hooks Drugs in Portland for eight years before moving to Muncie in 1978.e He retired from the CVS Pharmacy on McGalliard Road in 1998 after 20 years. In addition to his professional career, his life was marked by community service and memberships in several organizations.e He was a devoted member of College Avenue United Methodist Church, and the Delaware Kiwanis Club, where he shared his knowledge with students of all ages.e He was a leader of the Jay County Mental Health Association, and was a member of both the Delaware County Pharmaceutical Association, and the Indiana Pharmaceutical Association. Surviving are his wife Judy, to whom he was married for nearly 57 years; six daughters Andrea (Michael) O'Quin of Mt. Gillead, Ohio, Lisa (Claude) Stump of Arrowsmith, Ill., Linda (Rigo) Schmelzer of Bloomington, Ill., Leora (Byron) Foley of Fishers, Ingrid (Ivars) Lanart of Karlstad, Sweden, and Amelia Thornburg of Indianapolis; and a brother Vic Ray (Barbara) Thornburg of Muncie.e He was a devoted grandfather to 12 and great-grandpa to three. Funeral services will be held ate 11 a. m. on Tuesday in College Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Gast, Jr., officiating.e Interment will follow in the family plot at Jones Cemetery, north of Yorktown. The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to 8 p. m. on Monday, or one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning. Memorials may be directed to College Avenue United Methodist Church or Delaware Kiwanis Club. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements. **********************************************
