Laverne R. Stroder, 63, a resident of rural Churubusco, died at 2:00 a. m. on Friday, September 28, 2007, at Miller's Merry Manor in LaGrange following a brief illness. She had been a patient there for the past ten days. Ms. Stroder was born in St. Louis, Missouri on November 22, 1943, a daughter of Paul and Marie (Kernebeck) Gildehaus, and spent her formative years there. In 1977 she moved from St. Louis to Huntertown and lived there until moving near Churubusco in 1989. Employed as a machine operator at Tenneco Automotive in Ligonier, she had worked there for the past 13 years. In her leisure time she enjoyed watching sporting events on television, and especially enjoyed watching NASCAR. She also dearly loved her children and grandchildren. The surviving relatives include her daughter Karen (Gail) Martin of Rome City; her sons Dayton Glover and David (Kristi) Stroder, both of Churubusco; two sisters Evelyn Garman of LaOtto and Mary (Bob) Grill of Arnold, Mo; three brothers Alvin (Mary) Gildehaus of Cedar Hills, Mo., Raymond Gildehaus of Gray Summit, Mo., and Richard (Deloris) Gildehaus of Arnold, Mo; and nine grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Leona Heil and Marilyn Gildehaus. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a. m. on Monday, October 1, at St. Gaspar's Catholic Church, north of Rome City. Father Matthew Jozefiak will be the celebrant. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 2 to 6 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the funeral mass. The Rosary will be recited at 6 p. m. Sunday at the mortuary. Interment will be in St. Gaspar's Cemetery, Rome City.
