Lewis R. Goodwin

Lewis R. Goodwin, 67, of Fort Wayne, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and mentor, who left us peacefully on August 1, 2026, at. Parkview Hospital.

He was born on September 26, 1958, in Fort Wayne, cherished son of Edward and Rose (Rhonemus) Goodwin, and though he faced the tragic loss of his biological mother at a young age, he grew into a remarkable man whose legacy will forever resonate within his family and community.

After graduating from Bishop Luers High School, he dedicated many years to serving others, exemplified by his long and distinguished career as a Supervisor for Airport Operations at UPS, from which he retired in 2015.

A natural leader, Lew spent 39 years coaching at Bishop Luers High School, leaving an indelible mark on countless young athletes. His passion for the game was palpable as he led teams to 15 State Championship appearances, claiming 11 state titles. Lew was not just a coach; he was a mentor who instilled values of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship in all his players.

Lew was a passionate sports fan, particularly enjoying college football and cheering for his favorite teams. His easygoing manner and generous heart drew people to him, leaving behind countless friends who will always remember him for his kindness and enthusiasm for life.

In his personal life, Lew was deeply devoted to his wife, Amy Goodwin, whom he married in Fort Wayne on June 27, 1987. Together, they nurtured a loving family, including their sons, Michael (Amanda) Goodwin and Joseph (Megan) Goodwin, and daughter, Sarah (Josh) Hulbert. Lew's spirit will continue to shine through his five grandchildren, who fondly called him "Papa Lew." He delighted in every moment spent with them, whether at home or on cherished beach trips.

In addition to his wife and children Lew is survived by his two sisters, Lisa Gressley and Karen (John) Bercot; his five grandchildren, Liliana, Mallory, Jameson, Henry, and Theodore. In addition to his biological mother, he was preceded in death by his father and mother Edward and Sharon (Wagner) Goodwin.

At Lew's request there will not be any services at this time.
