Louise Budrey

Louise Budrey, 93, a resident of Huntertown, passed away at 5:15 a. m. on Saturday, October 19 2013 at Ashton Creek Health & Rehab Center in Fort Wayne. She had been a patient there for the past year. Ms. Budrey was born in Wilmington, Ohio on September 17, 1920, a daughter of Abraham and Wadia (Emrod) Budrey, and spent her formative years there. She graduated from Wilmington High School in 1938, and later earned her registered nurse's certificate from the Jewish Hospital School of Nursing in Cincinnati in 1943. A Navy Nursing Corps nurse for 26 years, she was a veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict. While stationed in Guam during World War II, she was a nurse who cared for the survivors of the famed USS Indianapolis. She retired from her military career in 1969 as a lieutenant commander, and returned to Wilmington, Ohio. She had been a resident of Huntertown since 1983. The surviving relatives include her two nephews Norman Bojrab, Jr. and James (Beverly) Bojrab, both of Fort Wayne; three nieces Dolores (Ralph) Oltmann of Punta Gorda, Fla., Camilla (Robert) Pelkington of Angola, and Emeline (Stephen) Detrick of Ossian; her brother-in-law Norman Bojrab, Sr. of Fort Wayne; and two great-nephews Ryan Bojrab of Indianapolis and Ross Bojrab of Fort Wayne. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters Helen Budrey and Mary Bojrab; and by two brothers Moses Budrey and Isaac Budrey. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at the First Church of God, 200 A Street, Wilmington, Ohio. Pastor Larry Speelman will officiate. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Monday from 4 to 7 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the family plot at Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington, Ohio.
