Margaret "Peg" Hoot

Margaret "Marg" Hoot, 96, of Huntertown, passed away at 5:40 p.m. on Thursday, October 27, 2016 at Presence Sacred Heart Nursing Home in Avilla. She was born on July 12, 1920 in Payne, Ohio, a daughter of John and Rose (Schaefer) Ryan. She spent her formative years in Huntertown, and graduated from Huntertown High School. On September 6, 1941 she was married in Fort Wayne to Oney Hoot. Marg was a member of St. Vincent's De Paul Catholic Church and was an active member of the Huntertown Homemakers club for over 50 years. She cherished time with her family and was passionate about giving blood to the American Red Cross, giving over 25 gallons. Oney preceded her in death on February 6, 2006. The surviving relatives include two daughters, Rita (James) Abel and Marilyn "Nan" (Tom) Brinker both of Huntertown; three sons, Bill (Ginny) Hoot, Tom (Anita) Hoot both of Fort Wayne, and Jim (Kathy) Hoot of East Amherst, NY; a sister, Theresa Gabet of New Haven; 18 grandchildren and 61 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by her four brothers, Joe Ryan, John Ryan, Bill Ryan, and Ed Ryan; three sisters, Mary Bobay, Ruth Schaefer, and Lioba Richardson; five grandchildren, Anthony Brinker, Matt Hoot, Ryan Hoot, Jeff Hoot, and Jennifer Hoot. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Vincent DePaul Catholic Church. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, or at the church one hour prior to the Mass. The Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the St. Vincent's Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the Huntertown Fire Department or Presence Sacred Heart in Avilla.
