Marilyn Jean "Jeannie" Meyer, 89, of Columbia City, passed away on April 19, 2024, at Parkview Whitley.
She was born on March 11, 1935, in Albion, to the late Alvia and Eva (Diffendafer) Hawk.
Jeannie is known for her lifelong dedication to her family and her community. Jeannie met her husband Dale Meyer, at the age of 16, whom she married on Christmas Eve of 1951. She began her career as a homemaker raising the couples two daughters. Then later she worked as a teller at Dana Credit Union until her retirement in 1989. She was a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. Her love for God, home, and family was evident as she often enjoyed decorating her home, cooking, and baking cakes, making the best buttercream frosting that her loved ones had ever tasted. Jeannie served as a youth group leader and enjoyed square dancing with her late husband, Dale Meyer.
Jeannie is survived by her daughters, Cheryl Keener and Eunice (Chuck) Forrester; seven grandchildren, Brandon (Lorie) Forrester, Heather Maley, Derrick (Christine) Keener, Devin (Stacy) Keener, Dane (Freedom) Keener, Dru (Amber) Keener, and Blake (Caylee) Forrester; 21 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her siblings, Robert Hawk, Ruth Ardhuerumly, Lenora Gross, Otis Hawk, Raymond Hawk, Thelma Hawk, Eloise McCain, and Helen Bailey; a son-in-law, Ted Keener; a granddaughter, Tiffany Stidham.
The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., at the Sugar Grove Church of God, 5019 East 500 S-57, Churubusco, on Tuesday, April 23, 2024, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the Sugar Grove Church of God on Monday, April 22, 2024, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will follow in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
