Marilyn J. Waterson, 81, a resident of Huntertown and wife of H. Max Waterson, died at 1:30 a. m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at the Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Waterson was born on October 6, 1927 in Whitley County, a daughter of Leo D. and Dorothy O. [Hively] Smith.e She spent her formative years on the family farm in Eel River Township, attended the former Center School, and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1946. On June 29, 1947 she was married in Huntertown to H. Max Waterson.e She was a homemaker, and spent most of her adult life in the Huntertown-area. She was a member of the Huntertown United Methodist Church, where she served in various capacities over the years; and was a member of the Huntertown Homemakers.e Along with her husband, she volunteered for seven years with Roving Volunteers in Christ's Service.e The couple also volunteered for several years during the summer months at the Oklahoma Indian Mission. The surviving relatives include her husband Max; her children Vickie Sue [David] Gillett of Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., and Rick [Vicki Kay] Waterson of Albion; a sister Phyllis Meyer of Perham, Minn; three brothers Roger [Karen] Smith of Churubusco, David [Jan] Smith of Uniondale, and Rev. Larry [Roseann] Smith of Churubusco; three grandchildren Matthew D. [Liz] Gillett of Atlanta, Ga., Joshua Gillett of Florida, and Tracy [Kevin] Strater of Albion; two great-grandsons Kaleb Strater and Samuel Strater; and lifelong friends Morris and Leona Bracht of Huntertown. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Donald Smith and Max Smith. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Monday, October 5, 2009, at Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, east of Churubusco.e Pastors Greg Hiatt and Larry Smith will officiate, and interment will follow in the Huntertown Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 2 to 6 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service Monday morning.
