Marjorie H. Roe, 98, a former resident of Ligonier and more recently of Albion, passed away at 7:15 am on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Parkview Noble Hospital in Kendallville following a short illness. She was the widow of former state representative and prominent Perry Township farmer Elbert O. Roe. Mrs. Roe was born on November 22, 1913 in Ligonier, a daughter of Guy and Mildred (Tucker) Calbeck. She spent her formative years in Ligonier, and graduated from Ligoner High School in 1931. On April 14, 1934 she was married in Goshen to Elbert O. Roe, and lived most of her adult life in the Ligonier area. As a young woman she assisted her parents in the operation of Calbeck Hardware in Ligonier. She was a member of the Richville United Methodist Church, west of Ligonier, and its United Methodist Women. In addition she was a former member of the Perry Township Home Demonstration Club and the Ladies Democratic Club. She had served as the state auxiliary president of the Soil and Water Conservation District, and was a Perry Township 4-H leader for ten years. Mr. Roe preceded her in death on October 25, 1994. The surviving relatives include her daughters Janet Brumbaugh of Albion and Jayne (Larry) Barron of Houston, Texas. There are 11 grandchildren, 35 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Stephen Roe on April 3, 1986. Also deceased are two brothers Marion Calbeck and Everett Calbeck; a sister Odeyne Blythe; and a son-in-law Loren "Jake" Brumbaugh. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Wednesday at Richville United Methodist Church, 11009 County Road 50, Ligonier. Pastors Jean Ness and Carol Knox will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church from 4 to 8 p. m. on Tuesday, or one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning. Interment will be in the family plot at the Oak Park Cemetery in Ligonier. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.
