Martha Wallace

Martha Jean Wallace, 88, a resident of Fort Wayne and widow of Herbert Wallace, passed away at 11:10 a. m. on Monday, October 18, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital in Fort Wayne.e She had been in declining health since July. Mrs. Wallace was born on September 5, 1922 in Bluffton, a daughter of John and Joeanna (Burdg) Mendenhall, and moved to Fort Wayne as a child with her parents. On October 14, 1940 she was married in Auburn to Herbert Wallace, and lived all of her adult life in Fort Wayne.e Mr. Wallace preceded her in death on February 12, 1965. The surviving relatives include her children Bonnie (Eli) Arnold and Peggy (Arthur) Heredia, both of Fort Wayne, David C. Wallace, Sr. of Omaha, Neb., and Coleen (Douglas J.) Driscoll of Columbia City.e There are nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son John C. Wallace on May 16, 2001; and by an infant brother John Mendenhall, Jr. Graveside services will be held at 2:30 p. m. on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at the Prairie Grove Cemetery, 6312 Old Trail Road, Fort Wayne.e Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, will officiate, and interment will follow. At the request of the family, there will be no calling hours. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society, 111 E.
