Mary C. Dafforn, 90, a resident of Eel River Township in Allen County and widow of Robert H. Dafforn, died at 3:17 a. m. on Tuesday, February 3, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne.e She had been in failing health for some time, and had been taken to the hospital from the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne on Sunday. Mrs. Dafforn was born in Wells County south of Bluffton on April 28, 1918, a daughter of Rollie and Stella (Faust) Deam.e She spent her formative years in that area and graduated from Bluffton High School in 1936. On October 12, 1940 she was married in Newport, Kentucky to Robert H. Dafforn.e The couple lived in Churubusco for the first two years of their marriage and then moved to the family farm in Eel River Township.e She had lived at her present home since 1962, and had been employed for several years as a press operator at the former Irene Byron Institutional Power Plant, north of Fort Wayne. Mr. Dafforn preceded her in death on April 30, 1987. The surviving relatives include her sons James R. (companion Mary Jo) Dafforn of Auburn, and Donald W. (Karen) Dafforn and Roger A. (Judy) Dafforn, both of Churubusco; a brother Richard (Sue) Deam of Bluffton; three sisters Joan Machling of Kendallville, Martha (Dwight) Siela of Fort Wayne, and Barbara Gurule of Raleigh, North Carolina; six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren; several great and great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers Robert Deam and Roger Deam; and by three sisters Mamie Schrieber,e Margaret Schrieber and Mildred Daniels. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. Saturday at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Larry Smith, pastor of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the mortuary on Friday from 2 to 8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, Allen County.
