Mary Hooten, 88, a former resident of Churubusco and widow of Burdette Hooten, was received into the arms of her Lord at 11:26 p. m. on Friday, March 29, 2013 at North Ridge Village Nursing Home in Albion with her family by her side. Mrs. Hooten was born in Andrew, Alberta, Canada on January 2, 1925, a daughter of Alec and Anna (Shapka) Syniak, and spent her formative years there.e On October 13, 1945 she was married to Burdette Hooten.e The couple first lived in Paoli, Indiana, moving to Huntington County in 1958.e She had lived in Churubusco since 1967. She retired in 1987 as a line worker at Dana Corporation in Churubusco, and was a faithful member of the Churubusco Church of the Nazarene and its WWJD Sunday School Class. e She taught children's Sunday School for over 20 years, was a true "prayer warrior," and lived a life that greatly impacted her family, friends, and community.e In her leisure time she enjoyed reading and puzzles, and most especially loved and cherished her Lord and her family. Mr. Hooten preceded her in death on September 21, 1994. The surviving relatives include two sons Randy G. (Kay) Hooten of Spring Hill, Fla., and Gary J. (Jan) Hooten of Fort Wayne; two daughters Anita J. Trotter of New Haven and Connie (Douglas) Claxton of Churubusco; a brother Metro Syniak of Alberta, Canada; and two sisters Lily Fewchuk and Jenny Jenson, both of Alberta, Canada; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son Kenneth Ray Hooten; a daughter Bonnie Sue Hooten; two brothers Willie Syniak and Johnny Syniak; and two sisters Helen Rioux and Katie Wolansky. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Wednesday , April 3, 2013, at the Churubusco Church of the Nazarene with Pastors Paul D. White and Eddie R. Jones, officiating. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Tuesday frome 2 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service.
