Mary Nichter

Mary L. Nichter, 92, of Churubusco, passed away at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. Mrs. Nichter was born on February 28, 1924 in Defiance, Ohio, a daughter of James and Grace (Cole) Easterday. On November 22, 1941 she was married in Ege, to Herb Nichter. She was employed at Fort Wayne Cardiovascular Surgeons, and retired in 1998 after 28 years. Mrs. Nichter was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Churubusco. Mary was apart of the Greatest generation. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and crocheting. Above all this she loved and cherished her family. Her spouse preceded her in death on January 18, 1992. The surviving relatives include daughter, Bonnie Zuber of Columbia City; a son David Nichter of Collins; seven grandchildren, Diane Meade, Shannon (Dan) Nix, Donna (Kevin) Sprunger, Deanna Brandt, Denise (Phil) Durnell, David Nichter, and Michael Nichter; 13 great grandchildren, Alyssa, Landon, Jade, Taylor, Logan, Dalen, Gabby, Lauren, Theo, Jordan, Tanner, Kate, and Mikey. In addition to her parents and spouse, she was preceded in death by a infant daughter, Mary Nichter; two sons Brian and Steve Nichter; a step-sister Margie Herron. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday at 11:00 a.m. at St. Johns Bosco Church, with Father Francis Chukwuma, the celebrant. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Saturday and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, or at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. The Rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery, Fort Wayne. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to Oakpoint Assisted Living or to the Church for masses.
