Mary Ellen Saylor, 88, a resident of Churubusco and widow of Robert V. Saylor, passed away at 11:59 a. m. on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne following a brief illness. She had entered the hospital on Sunday. Mrs. Saylor was born in Wood County, Ohio on July 5, 1925, a daughter of Ralph A. and Bertha (Arend) Grew. She spent her formative years in Paulding County, Ohio and graduated from Paulding High School in 1944. On June 10, 1947 she was married to Robert V. Saylor in Paulding. The couple lived in Leo until 1969 when they moved to Whitmer Lake near Wolcottville. They had lived in Churubusco since 1997. Employed as an assembly worker at Sheller Globe, she retired from there in 1986 after over 20 years of service. She was a member of St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Churubusco, and had enjoyed the Prominaders Square Dance Club in Fort Wayne for five years. In her leisure time she enjoyed gardening, fishing, and most especially loved and cherished her family. Mr. Saylor preceded her in death on February 21, 2010. The surviving relatives include two daughters Janet (Tim) Dirig of Churubusco and Brenda (Steve) Gaskill of Woodburn; five sons Jim (Joyce) Saylor of Fort Wayne, Robert (Carol) Saylor II of Leo, David (Deborah) Saylor of Garrett, Ronald (Candy) Saylor of Auburn, and Dennis Saylor of Churubusco; four brothers Clair Grew of Van Wert, Oh., James Antoine of Defiance, Oh., Edward (Doris) Antoine of Cecil, Oh, and Carl (Sue) Antoine of Paulding, Oh; a sister Marilyn (Dick) Minck of Sherwood, Oh; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, mother, and father, she was preceded in death by her step-father Bernard Antione; and by two sisters Ethel Aunkney and Lucille Hammon. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a. m. on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at St. John Bosco Catholic Church in Churubusco with Father Danney Pinto, the celebrant. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Friday from 4 to 8 p. m. The Holy Rosary will be recited at 8 p. m. Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in the Leo Cemetery.
