Max Eugene Bair, 70, of LaOtto, passed away at 2:50 p.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Mr. Bair was born on May 20, 1946 in Wolf Lake, a son of Paul and Regina (Scattergood) Bair. He spent his formative years in Churubusco, and graduated from Churubusco High School in 1964. After high school Max served four years in the United States Air Force. On December 14, 1968 he was married in Churubusco to Linda Honeywell. He was employed at Norfolk & Southern and retired in 1998 after 34 years of service. Mr. Bair was a member of American Legion. He loved woodworking, camping, fishing, COHO Bend Campground in Manistee, Mi, and most of all he cherished his family. He also enjoyed playing cards with his friends and going to the casinos. The surviving relatives include wife of 47 years, Linda Bair of Laotto; three daughters, Christina Bair of Lafayette, Carla Lowe of Avilla, and Carrie (Jason) Bolinger of Kendallville; a brother, Paul Bair, Jr.; a sister, Linda Wierschke; six grandchilden, Madison McHenry, Grant McKinney, Kristopher Gordon, Alexis Lowe, Elizabeth Bolinger, and Jackson Bolinger; and one great grandson, Kash W. Gordon. He was preceded in death by his parents Paul and Regina (Scattergood) Bair. Funeral services will be held at 6:00 p.m. Monday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, with Father Jim Shafer, officiating. The family will receive friends at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday. For those who wish, memorials may be directed to the family to help other families that have to stay at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
