Ned J. Tarney, 90, of Churubusco, passed away at 3:35 p.m on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Emeritus Senior Living in Fort Wayne. Mr. Tarney was born on December 4, 1921 in Newville, Indiana, a son of Claude E. and Minnie (Smith) Tarney.e He spent his formative years in Fort Wayne, and graduated from Central High School in 1940. On January 1, 1942 he was married in Fort Wayne, to Lauramae Arnold, and moved from Fort Wayne to Churubusco where he had lived since 1971. After serving his country in World War II, he graduated from the Apprentice School at General Electric, and worked there for approximately 42 years, retiring in 1982. After retiring he took up wood working which became a hobby. He was a member of the Community of Christ Church where he had served as a Pastor and more recently as a High Priest. His spouse of 70 years preceded him in death on June 30, 2012. The surviving relatives include daughter, Dixie Stouder of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; several great grandchildren and many great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Nedric J. Tarney; two brothers. Cecil and Marshall Tarney; two sisters, Fern Benner and Hilda McDaniels; a son-in-law Darwin Stouder; a grandson and a great-great grandson. Funeral services will be held ate 3:00 pm on Sunday, November 25, 2012, in Community of Christ Church, 3223 Hobson Road, with Pastor Alycia Smith, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial will be at a later date in the Riverview Cemetery, Newville, Dekalb County.
