Ollie M. Shank, 86, a resident of rural Churubusco, passed away at 9:05 p. m. on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home in Fort Wayne. Born in Clinch County, Georgia, she was the ninth child born of thirteen to William and Emma (Riberon) Chauncey. As a teenager she worked in a shoe factory in Waycross, Georgia, and then moved to Jacksonville where she found employment in a cigar factory. During her time there she met Wilbur Shank when he was stationed in the U. S. Navy. They were married on April 7, 1951 and relocated from Jacksonville to Churubusco shortly thereafter. Ollie was employed at Dana Corporation in Churubusco for 23 years, retiring from there in 1988. She was a member and volunteer of the Churubusco United Methodist Church for over ten years. In her leisure time she enjoyed fishing and watching the birds at the bird feeders around her home. Surviving are her husband Wilbur, to whom she was married for over 63 years; her daughters Cheryl Wyatt of Churubusco and Monica Shank of Fort Wayne; and two grandsons Andrew Ott of Chicago and Toby Ott of Churubusco; Also surviving are three sisters Arrie Dann of Fulton, New York, Louise Illum of Whittier, Calif., and Alma Foreman of Jupitor, Fla; and a brother Dr. Allen Chauncey of Jacksonville, Fla; In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014, at the Churubusco United Methodist Church, with Pastor Corinne Boruff-Stucker, officiating. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Wednesday from 4 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
