Peggy J. Elser, 82, of Albion, passed away on April 10, 2026, at Parkview Regional Medical Center.
She was born on October 5, 1943, at Lucky Hospital in Wolf Lake, to the late Benjamin and Phyllis (Krieger) Carpenter. Peggy spent her formative years in Churubusco, where she graduated from Churubusco High School.
On November 22, 1963, Peggy married Harold Elser in Brimfield; he preceded her in death on April 20, 1990. A dedicated homemaker, Peggy devoted her life to raising her children on the family farm, where she has lived since 1973.
Peggy was a cherished member of the Sugar Grove Church of God and the American Legion Post 246. Her passion for life included gardening, crocheting, reading, and watching birds, all of which brought her immense joy. Peggy had a unique way of bringing order to her world, often saying that her life wasn't complete without a list of chores or the pleasure of making one for someone else.
She is survived by her loving daughters, Penny (Donald) Krueckeberg, Julie (Kert) Resler, Jodi (Dan) Hedke, and Missy (Todd) Knafel; her sister, Helen (DeWayne) Stienbarger; her brothers, Tom Ferguson, Dan (Phyllis) Ferguson, Richard (Nila) Ferguson; a sister-in-law, Jeanie Brown; seven grandchildren, Danny and Faith Resler, Kaitlyn and Briana McFarlane, Elijah Hedke, Morgan (Nick) Alwine, Keegan Knafel; and one great-grandchild on the way.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin Carpenter and Phyllis Ferguson; her stepfather, Dan Ferguson; a brother, Walter Carpenter; and two grandsons, Keith Krueckeberg and Josh Resler.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. at the Sugar Grove Church of God on Friday, April 17, 2026, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the church on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at the Sparta Cemetery in Kimmel.
