Ralph Mittendorf, Jr., 88, of Huntertown, passed away at 4:02 pm on Sunday, December 21, 2014 at Ashton Creek in Fort Wayne. Mr. Mittendorf was born on January 5, 1926 in Madison County, Indiana, a son of Ralph and Ruth (Painter) Mittendorf. He spent his formative years in Madison County, and graduated from Summitville High School in 1943. On February 1, 1947 he was married in Detroit to Dorothy J. Ellsworth, and moved from Whitley County to Huntertown in 1956. He was employed at Dana Corp., Fort Wayne, and retired in 1991 after 43 years. Mr. Mittendorf was a member of Huntertown United Methodist Church, Veteran's of Foreign Wars, and Dana Quarter Century Club. The surviving relatives include a son, David L. (Cathy) Mittendorf of Huntertown; four grandchildren, Joel (Kassey) Davis of St. Joe, Lisa (Ryan) Heyn of Huntertown, Ben (Emily) Davis of Auburn, and Greg (Molly) Mittendorf of South Carolina; and nine great grandchildren He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy on December 28, 2011 and by a daughter Connie Davis. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco, with Gabrielle Ginder, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, or one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in the Huntertown Cemetery, Huntertown.
