Randall L. Houser, 93, a stalwart of the Huntertown community and respected business owner, passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, at Parkview Hospital.
He was born on September 10, 1931, in Fort Wayne, to the late Randall H. and Opal (Bunn) Houser. He spent his formative years in Huntertown and graduated from Huntertown High School in 1949.
After high school he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He served in the 79th Air base Squadron from February 1951 to September of 1952.
On January 6, 1953, he married his beloved wife, Barbara J. Harward, in Sioux City, Iowa. She preceded him in death on January 11, 2018, after celebrating 65 years of marriage.
He co-owned and operated Hayner-Houser Automotive until his retirement in 1990. His commitment to his community was evident as he served on the Huntertown City Board of Directors for eight years and was a past President of the Huntertown Lions Club and the Atwood Lake Association. As a 55-year member of the Huntertown Masonic Lodge and the Huntertown's Lions Club, his dedication to service was inspiring.
He is survived by his sons, Gary (Karen) Houser and David (Patty) Houser; his daughter, Jan (Tim) McAlhany; his sister, Maxine (Bob) Elward; nine grandchildren, Jennifer McAlhaney, August (Chad) Paul, Zachary (Melissa) Houser, Rob (Meghanne) McAlhaney, Natalie Houser, Rachel (Jared) Malcolm, Becca Houser, Kelsey (CJ) Smith and Jon Houser; 13 great-grandchildren, Gracelynn and Mollyanne Tolin, Dylan, Hallie and Alyvia Paul, Adalynn and Audrey and Levi Malcolm, Rhett and Rory Houser, Kendall and Caid Smith, Lucas McFall.
In addition to his parents and wife, he is preceded in death by his brother, Jack Houser.
A memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m., on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Sunday, November 3, 2024, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Burial will be in the Huntertown Cemetery, with Military Honors.
