Ray B. Knox, 96, a resident of Fort Wayne and a retired missionary, passed away at 3:00 p. m. on Thursday, December 1, 2011, at the Kingston Care Center in Fort Wayne.e He had been a resident of the nursing home since 2005. Mr. Knox was born on August 28, 1915 in Charlevoix, Michigan, a son of Ernest and Nellie (Hatmaker) Knox, and spent his formative years in Michigan.e As a young man he served with the U. S. Navy during World War II, and later attended Bible College. On September 30, 1939 he was married in Brunson, Michigan to DeVere L. Long.e The couple lived in Oregon for a period, and worked as Christian missionaries in both Mexico and South American from 1957 until their retirement in 1980.e The then lived in Arkansas before moving to this area. He was a member of the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church, east of Churubusco. The surviving relatives include the widow DeVere Knox, to whom he was married for over 72 years; two daughters Louise (David) Linnemeier of rural Fort Wayne and Lucy (Dan) Wallace of Berryville, Ark; a sister Ruth Meade of Three Rivers Mich; eight grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and nine great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Emily Knox. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m. on Monday, December 5, 2011, in the Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church with Pastor Larry Smith, officiating. The family will receive friends at the church after 12 noon on Monday until the time of the service. Interment will be in the Eel River Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
