Richard Plasterer

November 2, 1956 — December 23, 2013

Richard "Rick" Plasterer, 57, a resident of Churubusco, passed into the loving arms of his Savior at 8:14 p. m. on Monday, December 23, 2013, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He had been ill for the past seven years, and had been more seriously ill the past six weeks. Rick was born in Fort Wayne on November 2, 1956, a son of Robert W. and Helen (Shaffer) Plasterer, and spent his formative years there. He graduated from Bishop Dwenger High School in 1975 and also studied engineering at IPFW. On April 17, 1982 he was married in Whitley County to Robin R. Shively, and spent all of his adult life in Churubusco. He was previously employed at Dana Weatherhead Division and United Technology in Columbia City, and was currently employed as a technician at Federal Mogul in Avilla, where he had worked for over ten years. He was a member of the Blue River Church of the Brethren in Whitley County, and had been active in the Churubusco Turtle Days Association for nine years. He loved and cherished his family, and was especially proud to be an "Army Dad." The surviving relatives include his wife Robin; his children Emily (K.J.) McAleesejergins of Nashville, Tenn., and Philip (fiance(c)e Kristen Sloffer) Plasterer of Churubusco; two sisters Janet McBride of Goodyear, Ariz., and Barbara (Kevin) Kellogg of Fort Wayne; his brother Mike (Debbie) Plasterer of Ossian; and his father-in-law Joe Shively of Churubusco. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Saturday, December 28, 2013, in the Blue River Church of the Brethren, 3040 East 700 North, Columbia City, with Pastor Craig Alan Myers, officiating. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Friday from 2 to 8 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
