Richard Smith

Richard R. Smith, 90, of Huntertown, passed away on January 12, 2022, at his residence. He was born in Fort Wayne on August 6, 1931, to the late Russell R. and Josephine (Foltz) Smith. He spent his formative years in Fort Wayne and graduated from Northside High School in 1950. After high school, he joined the U.S Navy. Richard was married to Lois E. Ford on November 15, 1974, in Fort Wayne. He worked as a truck driver for Dohrn Trucking for 22 years and retired from Holland Motor Express after eight years. After retirement, he worked part-time for several years at Crescent Ave Gardens. Richard was a member of New Beginnings Community Church. Richard is survived by his wife, Lois Ford; two daughters, Mary Jo (Jim) Horne and Jackie L. (Steve) Hill; one son, Russell (Stephanie) Smith; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; three brothers, Larry, Tommy and Jerry Smith. Visitation will take place at Sheets and Childs Funeral Home, Huntertown Chapel, 16830 Lima Road Huntertown, IN 46748 on Tuesday, January 18, 2022, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, January 19, 2022, at the Huntertown funeral home, with visitation one hour prior to service from 9:30 am-10:30 am.
