Robert G. Boyer, 96, of Churubusco, passed away on March 2, 2024, at Miller's Merry Manor, in Garrett.
He was born on May 4, 1927, in Fort Wayne, to the late Ervin and Edgedene (Roebuck) Boyer. He spent his formative years in Columbia City and graduated from Columbia City High School.
Robert spent the majority of his life in Churubusco, a place he called home for over 65 years. On July 3, 1949, in Columbia City, he was married to Margaret L. Sheets. He was a committed and loving husband.
Robert was a respected member of his community, known for his work as a realtor and carpenter in the real estate business. His pastimes were many, including oil painting, fishing, woodworking, woodcarving, working with flowers, ballroom dancing, and home building. Robert's dedication to his community extended beyond his professional life, as he served in multiple clubs and organizations. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Churubusco, American Legion Post 98, Masonic Lodge, and Fort Wayne Shriners. He also served as a Boy Scouts of America troop leader in Churubusco and Columbia City and was the proud past president of the Turtle Days Association.
Robert proudly served in the United States Army during World War II in Germany as a Military Policeman. His service to his country and community will never be forgotten.
Robert is survived by his wife, Margaret Boyer, of 74 years; his nieces, Melinda (Leonard) Kelley and Cathy (Richard) Cramer.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Richard Boyer.
A funeral service will take place at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., with calling one hour prior to the service.
The family will also receive family and friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 5, 2024, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery, Churubusco.
Memorials may be directed to Alzheimer's Association or Parkview Hospice.
