Roger Egolf, 93, a resident of Fort Wayne and a native of Smith Township in Whitley County, passed away at 11:35 a. m. on Monday, March 10, 2014 at Harbour Assisted Living in Fort Wayne. He had been in failing health for the past month. Mr. Egolf was born on March 16, 1920 in Smith Township in Whitley County, a son of Paul and Alta Lenore (Hawk) Egolf, and spent his formative years on the family farm there. He graduated from Churubusco High School and as a young man served with the U. S. Army during World War II. He spent his adult life in Fort Wayne and was employed for 30 years at Howard Sobers, Inc. in fort Wayne, retiring as a driver for the firm in 1982. He was a member of Teamsters Local 414, and in his leisure time enjoyed antique tractors and gas engines. He most especially loved and cherished his family. The surviving relatives include his children Gary R. (Lori) Egolf and Becky Egolf, both of Fort Wayne; a sister Beatrice Leitch of Churubusco; and three grandchildren Chris Penrod, Paul Roger Egolf, and Anyssa Egolf. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Norman Egolf; and by five sisters Elizabeth Orcutt, Mary Jo Kennedy, Corrine Carig, Phyllis Miller and infant Janet Egolf. Funeral services will be held at 10 a. m. on Friday, March 14, 2014, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Corinne Boruff-Stucker, pastor of Churubusco United Methodist Church, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday from 4 to 8 p. m. Interment with military graveside rites will be in the family plot at Riverview Cemetery, south of Churubusco.
