Roger L. LaFevor, 63, a resident of rural South Whitley, lost his courageous fight against cancer at 5:30 p. m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at his residence with his loving family at his side. Mr. LaFevor was born in Fort Wayne on March 27, 1945, a son of the late Louis H. and Laura L. (Fritz) LaFevor. He graduated from Huntertown High School in 1963, and entered the U. S. Army later that same year, serving with Company B 1st Battalion 506th Infantry. He specialized in light weapons infantry, attended Airborn School, and was awarded the Parachutist Badge, Expert Badge (rifle M-14), and the National Defense Service Medal. On September 14, 1968 he was married in Fort Wayne to Patricia L. Gebhart, and worked as a wire drawer at General Electric in Fort Wayne, retiring from there in 1997 after over 30 years. The surviving relatives include his wife of 39 years Patricia; his children Doug (Marnie) LaFevor of Mitchell, and Christina (Albert) Donato of Fortville; two brothers Wendell LaFevor of Warsaw and Kenneth (Sharon) LaFevor of Auburn; a sister Wauneta (Bill) Perse of Fort Wayne; and four grandchildren. His parents preceded him in death. At Roger's request there will be a Tribute to Life Gathering at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco from 10 a. m. until noon on Friday, March 28. Military rites will be conducted at noon by the U. S. Army Honors Unit and the Churubusco American Legion Post 157.
