Rosalie Jean Gordon, 79, a resident of rural LaOtto and wife of Howard L. Gordon, passed away at 11:45 a. m. on Thursday, September 10, 2015, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne following a lengthy illness. She had been a patient there for the past two weeks. Mrs. Gordon was born in Noble County on January 31, 1936, a daughter of Harold and Goldie (Miller) Rosenogle. She spent her formative years on the family farm near Albion and graduated from Albion High School in 1954. On February 8, 1954 she was married in Columbia City to Howard L. Gordon. The couple lived most of their adult lives in Green Township in Noble County until moving to their present home in Swan Township in 1998. Employed in the deli and bakery at Kroger in Columbia City for ten years, she also assisted her husband as custodians of the Merriam Christian Chapel for a number of years. She was an expert seamstress, and in her leisure time enjoyed gardening and canning. The surviving relatives include her husband Howard, to whom she was married for over 61 years; her children Phil (Jan) Gordon of Albion, Phyllis Jean Gordon of Lakeland, Fla., and Perry (Judy) Gordon of Albion; a sister Ellen Straley of Orland; ten grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Norma Rosenogle; and by a son Patrick Allen Gordon on June 15, 1998. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Monday, September 14, 2015, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco with Rev. Steve Pulley, associate pastor of the Merriam Christian Chapel, officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2 to 5 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Monday morning. Interment will be in the Christian Chapel Cemetery, Merriam.
