Ruth E. Leitch, 92, of Churubusco, passed away on June 7, 2022, at Lutheran Life Villages. Ruth was born in Fort Wayne, on October 6, 1929, to the late Herman and Emma C. (Fuchshuber) Miller. She graduated from Southside High School in 1947. Then she earned her bachelor's degree from Ball State Teacher's College in 1951 and later went on to earn her master's degree from Saint Francis College in 1963. Ruth married Kenneth Leitch Jr., on June 5, 1963, in Churubusco. He preceded her in death on January 28, 2009. Ruth was a Charter Member of Faith Lutheran Church. She was also a member of the National Education Association, Indiana State Retired Teachers Association, and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority-50 years. She loved fishing, bingo, cooking, knitting, and reading. She worked at Churubusco Elementary School as a third-grade teacher for 22 years, retiring in 1983. Ruth was very proud to say that she taught every third grader in her class to sing "Silent Night" in German. Ruth is survived by four daughters, Ellen (Gary) Smith, Valeria (Jerry) Cheek, Jeannette (Gary) Petelle, and Vickie Leitch; her son, Scott (Debbie) Leitch; 16 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Along with her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her son, Christopher Hardacre in 2011, and her stepfather, James Johnston in 1997. Visitation will be from 5-7, on Friday, June 10, 2022, at Faith Lutheran Church 9251 IN-205 Churubusco, IN 46723. Burial will be at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
