Ruth H. Ryan, 87, a resident of Churubusco and widow of George F. Ryan, passed away at 10:50 p. m. on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at Parkview Whitley Hospital in Columbia City where she had been admitted earlier in the day after becoming ill at her home. Mrs. Ryan was born on December 16, 1926 in Fort Wayne, a daughter of Charles and Martha (Busche) Fry. She spent her formative years in Woodburn and graduated from Woodburn High School in 1944. On January 25, 1946 she was married in Woodburn to George F. Ryan. The couple lived in Fort Wayne for several years before moving to Smith Township in 1978. She had been employed as a cafeteria cook at Concordia High School, and retired from the cafeteria at Suburban Bethlehem Elementary School. She was a dedicated lifelong Lutheran, and enjoyed the church's women's activities. In her leisure time she enjoyed a variety of games and also square dancing with the former Boots 'n Bonnets square dancing club. Most especially, she loved and cherished her family. Mr. Ryan preceded her in death on April 7, 1991. The surviving relatives include her daughters Janet Parker and Patricia (Gary) Powell, both of Churubusco; her son Steve (Shelly) Ryan of LaGrange; a son-in-law Kevin Parker of Albion; nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother Lester Fry; a sister Alice Dix; an infant son; and an infant brother. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. Monday at Faith Lutheran Church in Churubusco with Pastor Lane Burgland, officiating. The family will receive friends at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco on Sunday from 2 to 5 p. m., or at the church one hour prior to the service. Entombment will be in the mausoleum at Concordia Cemetery Gardens, Fort Wayne.
