Sally (Gilbert) Gardner, 75, a native of Churubusco and more recently of Winona Lake, passed away unexpectedly at 4:05 p. m. on Sunday, March 6, 2011, at Grace Village Assisted Living in Winona Lake, where she had been a resident for the past 19 years. Mrs. Gardner was born in Churubusco on August 10, 1935, a daughter of Jasper L. and Helen (Rowland) Gilbert.e She spent her formative years in Churubusco and graduated from Churubusco High School. As an adult she lived in Union City, Michigan for a period, and had lived in Hallandale, Florida for 20 years before moving to the Winona Lake facility in 1992.e While living in Michigan, she served as a school bus driver, and later in life worked as a waitress. Her husband Leo Gardner preceded her in death.e She was also preceded in death by her parents and by two infant sisters. The surviving relatives include her three children Charles J. (Susan) Brown of Claypool, James L. (Sandra) Brown of Jones, Mich., and Charlene L. Samson of Lehigh Acres, Fla; her brothers Gordon (Eva) Gilbert and Rowland (Elaine) Gilbert, both of Churubusco; seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. At the request of the family, there will be no services or calling hours.
