Sharon Bertrand

Sharon G. Bertrand, 77, of Columbia City, passed away on Tuesday, January 17, 2023, at Parkview Medical Center. She was born in Fort Wayne on December 14, 1945, to the late Lee Roy and Frances (Liby) Blough. She spent her formative years in Fort Wayne and graduated from Northside High School. She never lived more than 32 miles from the hospital she was born in. She received her bachelor's and master's degree from Purdue. Sharon was married to Russel Bertrand in Watseka, IL, on February 18, 1966. He preceded her in death on January 16, 2014. She retired as a teacher for Fort Wayne Community Schools after 32 years. In her retirement, she continued to teach as a substitute teacher for Smith-Green Community Schools for many years. She volunteered at Faith Christian Academy of Whitley County for several years. Sharon was an active member of Collins United Methodist Church. She enjoyed working in her giant garden with Russell and spending time with her two grandsons. Sharon is survived by a beloved son, Todd (Catherine) Bertrand; cherished grandsons, Alexander and Nathaniel Bertrand; a sister-in-law, Etta Jo Elliott; a brother-in-law, John Abbott. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Susanne Abbott. Funeral Services will be held at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel, on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive family and friends on Saturday, January 21, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at Covington Memorial Gardens, Fort Wayne. Sharon's love for her family and friends showed through her daily. In Sharon's honor the family is requesting memorials be directed to a family in need after a tragic loss.
