Steven J. Getty, 66, a resident of Fort Wayne, passed away at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2016, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne following an extended illness.
Mr. Getty was born on September 14, 1949 in Fort Wayne, a son of Reynold and Helena (Miller) Getty. A lifelong resident of Fort Wayne, he graduated from Bishop Luers High School in 1967, and as a young man served with the U.S. Marine Corps.
Employed at General Electric in Fort Wayne, he retired from there after 37 years. He was a member of the American Legion, and in his leisure time enjoyed NASCAR, Chicago White Sox, Indianapolis Colts, and Indiana University athletics. He was an avid reader and most importantly loved and cherished his family.
On June 3, 1983 he was married in Fort Wayne to Cindy Ringler. She survives.
Also surviving are his daughter Rachel (Jimmy) Mays of Windsor, Conn; two brothers Jerry (Maryann) Getty and Art (Nancy) Getty, both of Fort Wayne; and his two beloved grandchildren Ryan Mays, age 8 and Kendall Mays, age 2.
His parents preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 2 to 8 p.m., or one hour prior to the service Tuesday morning.
Interment will be in the Highland Park Cemetery, Fort Wayne.
