Steven Mckee

Steven Bruce McKee, 75, of Churubusco, passed away at his home on January 6, 2024. He was born on February 16, 1948, in Portland, Indiana, to the late John and Shirley (Petschke) McKee. He spent his formative years in Portland and graduated from Portland High School in 1966. He was a lifelong resident of Indiana, having lived in Portland, Fort Wayne, and later moving to Churubusco in the early 90's. Steven was a beloved husband to Carolyn (Creech) Bennett, whom he married on April 24, 1993. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, who valued family and friendships above all else. His relationship with the Portland High School Class of 1966 was especially important to him. Steve spent his professional life in the IT industry, using his expertise to run a successful home computer repair business in Churubusco, Your Computer Guy, from which he later retired. In his spare time, Steve had a wide range of hobbies that showcased his diverse interests. He was an avid stock car racing and model train enthusiast, enjoyed researching genealogy, and found great joy in taking his grandchildren to the movies. He was also a talented musician who could often be found playing the piano and guitar, and a skilled woodworker. He is survived by his loving wife, Carolyn McKee; his son, Jon (Roni Ann) McKee; his two daughters, Kris (Brian) Zimmerman and Nicole Bennett; his two sisters, Barb Hambrock and Carol (Millie Smeltzer) Doney; his five grandchildren, David (Savannah), Jarred (Michaela), Katie, Jake, and Josh; four great-grandchildren, Waylon, Claire, Jax, Finan. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Shirley McKee; a sister, Dixie Jordan. A public calling will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2024, from noon to 3:00 p.m. at Sheets & Childs Funeral Home, Churubusco Chapel. The funeral service will follow at the same location at 3:00 pm. Memorials may be directed to Whitley County Humane Society. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home has been entrusted with these arrangements.
