Talmage G. "Bud" Campbell, 93, a resident of rural Huntertown, passed away at 7 a. m. on Sunday, June 23, 2013, at the family residence in Eel River Township following an extended illness. Mr. Campbell was born on June 2, 1920 in Stanley, New York, a son of Talmage and Lena (Gerould) Campbell, and spent his formative years in that area. He graduated from high school in Geneva, New York in 1938, and as a young man served with the U. S. Army during World War II. On October 25, 1947 he was married in Canandiagua, New York to Margaret Wood. He attended Hobart College and IPFW, and was employed at the Cornell University Experiment Station while living in Stanley, New York. For 25 years he worked as a chemist and microbiologist for Central Soya in Decatur, Chicago, and later in Fort Wayne, retiring from there in 1982. He later graduated from the nursing program at Ivy Tech Community College in Fort Wayne, and worked as a nurse at Parkview Hospital from 1982 to 1986. He later was employed as a nurse for the American Red Cross for over nine years, retiring in 1996. He and his wife had lived at their present home near Huntertown since 1978. In addition to his employment, his life was marked by memberships and activities in several organizations. He was a member of the Huntertown United Methodist Church, where he had taken an active part and had served as the chairperson of the church's recycling program. He was also a member of the Huntertown Lions Club, Huntertown Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post 11314, the American Microscopial Society, the Indiana LPN Association, and participated in Voluntary Opthometric Services for Humanity. Following his retirement he served as chairperson of Huntertown's Focus on Health, and also volunteered with the American Red Cross Bloodmobile. The surviving relatives include his wife Margaret, to whom he was married for over 65 years; two sons Brian E. (Jacqui) Campbell of Delaware, Ohio and Blair G. (Sheila) Campbell of Evanston, Ill; three daughters Cathleen (Ronald) Gjerde of St. Charles, Ill., Constance (Mitchel) McConnell of Brownsburg, and Cynthia (James) Hartline of Noblesville; and nine grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers William Campbell and J. Lawrence Campbell; a sister Louise Garcia; and by a grandson Ian Talmage Campbell. Funeral services will be held at 11 a. m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Huntertown United Methodist Church, 16021 Lima Rd., with Pastors Greg Hiatt and Sherri Long, officiating. Military rites will follow. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 2-4 and from 6-8 p. m., or one hour prior to the service Thursday. Interment will be in the family plot at the Number Nine Cemetery in Stanley, New York on Monday, July 1, 2013 at 10 a. m. Sheets & Childs Funeral Home in Churubusco is in charge of the arrangements.
